Sheriff Aitor Narvaiza talked about initial county approval for a proposed Elko County Jail expansion. The facility would include up to 50 beds and be a designated Behavioral Health wing to house inmates suffering addiction withdrawals and mental health issues. The County Budget Committee approved $25K for plans to be drawn up for a facility the sheriff estimates could cost between $5-7 million dollars. The sheriff also talked about the ACLU withdrawing a lawsuit over inmate voting procedures, an upcoming Special Olympics fundraiser and new hires.
