Conservation Educator Julie Gabrielson outlined a variety of topics from free classes offered by NDOW to boating safety and community outreach like a Community Bat Walk coming up August 7th. Hunting season opens August 1st and fire season is continuing.

Elko City Police Chief Kyle Ward and Elko County Sheriff Aitor Narvaiza were guests to talk about a variety of topics from a DV Homicide under investigation to the use of license plate readers to solve crimes. There have been numerous burglaries of homes and vehicles in an Elko neighborhood, and the pair promoted the National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4th in the Main City Park from 5-8 p.m.

A choral music group from the Elko area has been invited to perform as part of an ensemble at Carnegie Hall. “Voices” President Valerie Sargeant and Emily Croft, Secretary, and Patty Fisk, Choir Member of the non-profit talk about being chosen for a Carnegie Hall ensemble performance in May 2027. Fundraising will include local performances.

Assistant City Manager Dale Johnson and Street Superintendent Paul Algerio were guests with an update on summer street projects, capital purchases and the operation of a new sewer lift station at Exit 298. The city is also researching issues that have recently raised public concern, from a proposal to install Flock surveillance cameras to the inclusion of Eminent Domain as a tool to clean up derelict properties.

Senior Center Matt McCarty discussed issues important to senior citizens from food security to staying cool in extreme heat.
