Jill Tingey of UNR Extension promoted the latest Elko County Needs Assessment, an online survey, and urged listeners to pick up free radon kits as January is National Rado Awareness Month. UNR Extension is hiring a part-time position for the UNR Sanford Center for Aging. FISH Executive Director Tim Royal provided an update on services, opportunities and goals. A non-profit, FISH is hosting an adult prom fundraiser on Saturday, February 14th at the Elko Conference Center with all proceeds to benefit the food bank, soup kitchen and thrift store. Hospice Director Billie Crawford provided information about the area’s all volunteer, non-profit community hospice that provides peer support for grieving families as well as end-of-life care for those who are dying.

The Elko Area Chamber of Commerce is kicking off the New Year with goals for 2026 and continued outreach to more than 700 members regionwide. A Board Retreat yielded brainstorming and many more ideas for events and activities that support local business. The Chamber is ramping up for local elections in 2026 and the annual Home Show in May.

Marianne McKown of Vitality Integrated Program Services gave an update on services and access to mental health care and substance abuse treatment programs in the community. Vitality is a non-profit provider offering wraparound services in addition to outpatient mental health care and inpatient substance abuse treatment.
