Chamber Director Billie Crapo was our guest to highlight numerous summer events and activities, from workshops to festivals, rodeos and concerts, Elko, Carlin and Spring Creek are hosting picnics, parades and art dedications to celebrate America 250.

Nevada Youth Mental Health Corps Executive Director Zanny Marsh outlined the new initiative to connect local youth with programs and services in the model of Americorps.

Assistant City Manager Dale Johnson provided a preview of the city council agenda in time for the regular meeting today. The discussion included agenda items regarding purchasing new airport and fire department equipment, a request to defer a sidewalk improvement and awarding bids for micro slurry on about 4.3 miles of city street.

Elko Regional Airport Manager Jim Foster was in studio to talk about improvement projects, special events and the latest enplanements. The Flight Alliance of Northeastern Nevada met recently to discuss continued financial support for daily Skywest flights connecting Elko to the Salt Lake City International Airport.

Elko City Police Chief and Elko County Sheriff Aitor Narvaiza talked about current law enforcement issues ranging from the upcoming First Tuesday event to purchasing new police vehicles, the joint response to the tragic deaths of a father and son and a plan to conduct technology training thanks to a financial gift from the mother of Dylan Rounds who was murdered.

Elko City Manager Jan Baum and City Planner Cathy Laughlin appeared to discuss the latest in Redevelopment Agency news including a proposal to add the possibility of imminent domain to the RDA code. The city seeks to address vacant properties that over the years have fallen into disrepair. City Manager Jan Baum talked about a flat budget and stable revenue as the governing board is poised to approve a final tentative budget.

Marianne McKown of the Elko Noon Rotary Club invited sponsors and participants to save the date for the annual Robin Hood Renaissance Faire in Lamoille Grove Park August 29-30.
