Elko County Library - 16th Annual Family Gingerbread House Contest
This event encourages families to spend time together during the busy holiday season by creating a gingerbread house. A contest packet with registration, guidelines, and recipes is available at the Library and on the website. Families can deliver their gingerbread houses to the Library from Monday, December 1st through Saturday, December 13th.

California Trail Interpretive Center
Sheep to Shawl: Saturday, December 13th, 12:00-4:00 p.m. Fiber Arts - Pioneer women knitted socks, mittens and shawls. Today, fiber artists create hats, purses, slippers, stuffed animals, and other items that are cherished and loved. Join us on Saturday for "Sheep to Shawl: Fiber Arts at the California Trail Interpretive Center." The event takes place from noon to 4:00 p.m. Demonstrations include spinning, carding, knitting, crotchet and weaving. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn how wool is processed and knit into a beautiful shawl, along with other practical, warm, hand-made items
There will be demonstrations, hands-on activities, and interpretive programs!
Kid’s Quilting Program: Bear Tracks on My BedSunday, December 14th, 2:00 p.m. What do bear tracks, turkey tracks and log cabins have in common? They are represented on quilts. Learn about pioneers by the patterns they left behind. Create your own paper quilt block that represents life on the Trail.
Elko County Library - "Food for Fines"
Bring in non-perishable food items to the library from 11/1 through 12/31 to pay for your overdue fines (up to $10.00). Food items past their "best if used by" date will not be accepted. The Elko County Library will be partnered with FISH. All food items will be distributed to those in need for the holidays. Help members of your community have a good holiday season and take care of your overdue fines all at the same time!

First Presbyterian Church - Elko Handbells Christmas Concert
Sunday December 14 at 4pm, at the First Presbyterian Church, 1559 Sewell Drive. FREE ADMISSION, donations gratefully accepted.
Forest Service - Christmas Tree Permits
Christmas is fast approaching and tree cutting permits will be available, at your local Forest Service offices beginning Monday, Nov. 17. Permits are $5 per tree, with a limit of 5 trees per family. Permits willbe available for sale until Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014.
Permits for cutting trees on the Mountain City, Jarbidge, and Ruby Mountains Ranger Districts, can be purchased at the Elko Forest Service Office at 2035 Last Chance Road in Elko or at the Wells Forest Service Office located at 140 Pacific Avenue in Wells.

City of Elko Parks and Recreation
Elko County Art Club Gallery: Saturday, January 10 from 6-8pm.
The City of Elko Recreation Department in partnership with the Elko County Art Club would like to present A Toast to Art. Drink creatively while you combine cocktails with a slight artistic flair. Toast to Art allows experienced and amateur painters to embrace their creative side during a two hour session of step-by step painting with a local artist. Beverages of Beer and Wine will be available for purchase. Appetizers will be served. Space is limited to 24 participants! A Toast to Art will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Elko County Art Club Gallery Located at 407 Railroad St. Preregister online at www.elkocity.com or visit the recreation office at 723 Railroad St. Cost is $35 Per Person. Participants must be 21 years of age or older.

Boys and Girls Club of Elko - Youth Basketball League
Youth will learn basketball skills, team play and have fun in the developmental basketball league. This league will consist of six scheduled games, basketball camp, and weekly practices. Youth receive a team t-shit.
